Editorial Standards

This page exists so you can check our work. It describes where the numbers on this site come from, in what order we trust them, and what we do when the answer isn't available.

What we don't claim

We do not run a testing laboratory and we do not conduct instrumented hands-on trials. You will not find "we tested this for 40 hours" on this site, because we haven't. Any performance claim is attributed to a source, and the source is named.

Source order

1. Brand-published specifications. Measurement charts, fabric composition, stated dimensions, weight, care instructions. This is the primary source because it's checkable and it's what the brand will honour.
2. Published third-party measurements. Where a specialist publication has measured something — a carry-on against an airline sizer, a fabric's weight in ounces — we use it and cite it by name.
3. Owner reports. Retailer reviews, forum threads, long-term update posts. Treated as directional: good for durability and fit-in-practice, weak on precise numbers. We look for patterns across many reports rather than quoting a single one.

Ratings

Where we show a star rating, it comes from a source we can name — a retailer's published aggregate for that specific product, for example. Ratings are never estimated to fill a gap. If we can't source one, we leave it out rather than publishing a number we can't stand behind.

Prices

Prices are snapshots taken at the time of writing and are not quotes. Brand sites route by region, so a figure read from the wrong locale is wrong even when the source is good — we check for that. Commission arrangements don't affect which products appear.

When a number isn't available

We say it isn't published. This happens more often than most sites admit: brands omit measurements, retailers show shop-level review widgets rather than product-level ones, and specifications change between production runs without announcement. Inventing a figure to complete a table is worse than leaving the cell empty.

Corrections and updates

Every article carries a published date and a last-updated date. Corrections update the latter only. If you find a figure that no longer matches its source, email hi@dressingtime.com and we'll check it.
