The work-tote decision comes down to one measurement: the width and depth of what has to fit inside, checked against the bag’s published interior. Three Michael Kors outlet totes sit at 15, 18 and 19.75 inches wide, each answering the same question differently — what a day actually requires.

The laptop arithmetic first

Apple publishes the two MacBook Air footprints: the 13.6-inch Air measures 11.97 by 8.46 in, the 15.3-inch Air 13.40 by 9.35 in. Both numbers matter, because tote and laptop each have two.

Laid flat, the 13.6-inch Air disappears inside all three totes. The 15.3-inch Air is the differentiator: it fits the Charlotte’s 15-inch width with 1.6 inches to spare, but its 9.35-inch depth against the Charlotte’s 10-inch height leaves 0.65 inches — enough bare, not enough with a sleeve. The Arden adds half an inch of height; the Jet Set Travel adds nearly three and a half.

The same discipline decides a 16-inch laptop backpack: the published sleeve, not the diagonal on the box.

The width ladder

Height10 in10.5 in12.75 in
Depth4.75 in5 in6.75 in
Handle drop10 in11 in10.25 in

The Charlotte is a one-laptop bag — the machine, a charger and a notebook — and the brand’s copy describes it as holding a day’s essentials plus a change of clothes for the gym.

The Arden adds three inches of width and a quarter inch of depth, where a second item — a folder, a lunch — fits alongside the laptop.

The Jet Set Travel is a different class: the brand describes its interior as sized to hold a laptop and a spare pair of flats, and the 3.4 inches of height spare over the 15.3-inch Air back the claim. It is also the bag that stops being a work tote and becomes a travel bag.

Handle drop is a shoulder question

All three drops sit between 10 and 11 inches, so all three are shoulder bags; none publishes a crossbody strap. The Arden’s 11-inch drop is the longest and the most forgiving over a winter coat. Width interacts with drop: a 19.75-inch bag on a 10.25-inch drop swings against the hip when walking — the trade the Jet Set Travel makes for capacity.

Material splits the set

The Charlotte is Saffiano leather, and its page ties the leather to tanneries holding Leather Working Group Gold or Silver certification — the only one of the three that names a program. The Arden is coated canvas with logo print and silver-tone hardware; the Jet Set Travel is logo-print canvas with gold-tone hardware, described by the brand as scratch-resistant.

The trade is weight against structure: canvas is lighter and cleans by wiping, leather carries a patina and can be conditioned. None of the pages publishes a warranty or abrasion data, so the choice is preference.

Pockets, as published

The Charlotte has two side slip pockets and a back zip pocket inside; the Arden has a front slip pocket and a back zip pocket. The Jet Set Travel has a front zip pocket outside and slip pockets front and back inside — the only one with a zipped exterior pocket, the pocket that actually secures a phone on a commute.

The three totes

Charlotte Large Saffiano Leather Top-Zip Tote is the slim leather option, published at 15”W × 10”H × 4.75”D with a 10-inch handle drop, two side slip pockets and a back zip pocket, listed at USD 55.99 on the US site at the time of writing. Arden Large Top-Zip Tote is the coated-canvas option, published at 18”W × 10.5”H × 5”D with an 11-inch handle drop, a front slip pocket and a back zip pocket, in silver-tone hardware. Jet Set Travel Extra-Large Signature Logo Tote is the capacity option, published at 19.75”W × 12.75”H × 6.75”D with a 10.25-inch handle drop, a front zip pocket and slip pockets front and back inside, in gold-tone hardware.

What to measure first

Measure the laptop bare, then in the sleeve it actually travels in, and compare the larger number against height first, width second — width is rarely the constraint. Then add the second item: if it is a pair of flats, only the Jet Set Travel has the published depth for it; if it is a folder, the Arden is the smallest bag that takes both.

01

Charlotte Large Saffiano Leather Top-Zip Tote

Best leather option

The only leather bag of the three and the only one that names its tannery certification: Saffiano leather from Leather Working Group Gold- or Silver-certified tanneries, published at 15 × 10 × 4.75 in with a 10-inch handle drop, two side slip pockets and a back zip pocket. Listed at USD 55.99 on the brand's US site at the time of writing. The 4.75-inch depth is slim, which keeps it from bulging but caps the second item.

What works

  • — Saffiano leather with Leather Working Group certification named on the page
  • — Two side slip pockets for phone and keys without opening the bag
  • — Listed at USD 55.99, the only verified price of the three

What doesn't

  • — 0.65 in of height spare over a 15.3-inch Air — a sleeve erases it
  • — 4.75 in depth is the shallowest of the three
  • — No zipped exterior pocket
02

Arden Large Top-Zip Tote

Best middle size

Coated canvas with logo print at 18 × 10.5 × 5 in, an 11-inch handle drop — the longest of the three and the most forgiving over a coat — with a front slip pocket, a back zip pocket and silver-tone hardware. The extra half inch of height over the Charlotte is what takes a sleeved 15.3-inch Air. Canvas trades the leather's patina for weight and wipe-clean care.

What works

  • — 11 in handle drop is the longest of the three
  • — 10.5 in height leaves 1.15 in over a 15.3-inch Air
  • — Coated canvas is lighter than the leather option

What doesn't

  • — No tannery certification named, unlike the Charlotte
  • — No zipped exterior pocket
  • — Canvas does not develop leather's patina
03

Jet Set Travel Extra-Large Signature Logo Tote

Best for capacity

The capacity option at 19.75 × 12.75 × 6.75 in with a 10.25-inch handle drop, a front zip pocket and slip pockets front and back inside. The brand describes the interior as sized to hold a laptop and a spare pair of flats, and the published 3.4 inches of height spare over a 15.3-inch Air backs it. This is also the bag that stops being a work tote and becomes a light-travel bag.

What works

  • — Only one of the three with a zipped exterior pocket
  • — 12.75 in height fits a 15.3-inch Air plus a pair of flats
  • — 6.75 in depth is the most likely of the three to hold its shape

What doesn't

  • — 19.75 in width swings against the hip at a 10.25 in drop
  • — Heaviest class of the three when loaded to capacity
  • — Logo canvas is the least formal of the three materials

FAQ

Will a 15-inch MacBook Air fit in the Charlotte tote?
Flat, yes, with almost no margin. Apple publishes the 15.3-inch Air at 13.40 by 9.35 in, and the Charlotte's interior is 15 by 10 by 4.75 in — 1.6 in of width spare but only 0.65 in of height spare, which a protective sleeve erases. The Arden's 10.5 in of height leaves 1.15 in, and the Jet Set Travel's 12.75 in leaves 3.4 in.
Is coated canvas as durable as leather?
The brand describes its coated canvas as scratch-resistant, but none of the three pages publishes abrasion data, a warranty or a care regime for either material. The honest trade is weight and structure against patina: canvas is lighter and cleans by wiping, leather shows its history and can be conditioned. Neither page quantifies either.
Do these totes stand up on their own?
Not published for any of the three. The Jet Set Travel's 6.75 in depth is the most likely to hold a shape, but that is an inference from the dimensions rather than a claim the brand makes. If the bag has to stand on an office floor, treat it as unverified and check in person.
